03-09-2009 | Painting and Decorating terms of the trade
This month we will describe one of the common Painting and Decorating terms found by the householder, DIYer, and Proffessional Painter & Decorator.
EMULSION PAINTS. These are water-thinned paints made up of a variety of synthetic substances such as acrylics, emulsifiers and catalysts. Modern emulsion paints have additives to make them hardwearing. Emulsion paints give degrees of sheen, and the paint becomes harder wearing as the sheen increases. Emulsions are available as a Matt, Eggshell, Silk, Satin and Gloss finish. Typically, these are used on ceilings and walls and now special water based emulsion paints are available for woodwork.
